Mosaics with a master
7 April at 8 pm. in Gerduberg
A mosaic is a picture or artwork composed of small pieces of tile of various colours. Alice Olivia Clark is a mosaic designer, and one of the most skilled in her art. She concentrates on large-scale murals, but also produces smaller works and utilitarian objects. One of her recent works is Tré lífsins 2009-2011 (The Tree of Life) in the Hafnarfjörður Church, in the form of a Celtic cross which will gain leaves gradually over the coming years as new children being confirmed each make and contribute their own. Alice talks about her artistic career and demonstrates mosaic-making to guests. On the same evening she will be opening an exhibition of her works in the cafeteria where the craft coffee evening will be held.
Alice Olivia was born and bred in Canada, but has lived in Iceland for the past 18 years. She runs a workshop in Hafnarfjörður where she works at her art and holds courses.
Gerðuberg holds Craft and Coffee Evenings on the first Wednesday evening of each month, the aim being to offer a cosy atmosphere where guests can meet, chat and do some handcraft over a cup of coffee. Demonstrations and even hands-on sessions, depending on the theme of the evening, are also part of the programme. The sessions begin and 8 p.m. and end at 10 p.m., and are free.
