Patch by patch for 30 years– The Icelandic Patchwork Quilting Society at 10

The Icelandic Patchwork Quilting Society is celebrating the completion of 10 years of its existence this year, holding a lavish exhibition in Perlan in the autumn under the title Patch by patch for 30 years. Anna Margrét Árnadóttir talks about the work of the society and shows some quilting works that show the depth and range that this craft offers. The Gerðuberg branch of the Reykjavík Public Library will also be displaying books and magazines devoted to quilting.

Anna Margrét Árnadóttir is the society’s education and publicity officer, and also chairman of its anniversary committee. She says the social aspect is what gives her the most: “Quilting together is such fun!”

Gerðuberg holds Craft and Coffee Evenings on the first Wednesday evening of each month, the aim being to offer a cosy atmosphere where guests can meet, chat and do some handcraft over a cup of coffee.  Demonstrations and even hands-on sessions, depending on the theme of the evening, are also part of the programme. The sessions begin and 8 p.m. and end at 10 p.m., and are free.
