5 May Wood carving

Ólafur Oddsson introduces guests to the qualities of fresh wood and the techniques of carving. Carving fresh wood is different from carving other materials; the wood is soft and has a scent.  Ólafur will also demonstrate the carving tools and their use, and utilitarian objects and artworks made using fresh wood.
Ólafur has been teaching carving and fresh wood sills in the Icelandic College of Education and at courses for the general public all over Iceland, which have been well received.

Gerðuberg holds Craft and Coffee Evenings on the first Wednesday evening of each month, the aim being to offer a cosy atmosphere where guests can meet, chat and do some handcraft over a cup of coffee.  Demonstrations and even hands-on sessions, depending on the theme of the evening, are also part of the programme. The sessions begin and 8 p.m. and end at 10 p.m., and are free.
