On a string
16 January – 7 March 2010
Puppets, costumes and masks made by Messíana Tómasdóttir
for some of the shows mounted by the puppet theatre Strengjaleikhúsið.
This is a colourful and catching exhibition that appeals to both adults and children. The ‘string’ element in the name Strengjaleikhúsið was chosen to refer both to puppetry and musical instruments, and ever since its foundation the theatre has earned praise for both its theatrical productions and musical performances. It has also premiered theatre works with contemporary music, chiefly operas. In her work, Messíana has emphasised the importance of music, visual elements and the interplay of colour and feeling.
