Breiðholt: the beginnings
From the Reykjavík Photographic Archive
16 May – 30 June 2010
The exhibition Breiðholt í upphafi consists of photographs from the Reykjavík Photographic Archive that were taken in Breiðholt in the 1960s and 1970s. While the archive materials cover a wide range of subjects, the choices for this exhibition have been made to show construction and development of the area, and children. Most of them therefore are of building sites and finished buildings, children at play and people at work, with a strong sense of period in the large black-and-white prints. A few of the people shown are named, but most have not been identified. Do you know any of them?
The exhibition is open from 16 May to 30 June 2010, from 11 am to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. at weekends. NB: Gerðuberg is closed at weekends during June.
At the same time, also in Gerðuberg, Friðgeir Helgason’s photograph exhibition Breiðholt – Í augnablikinu (Breiðholt – at the moment) is on in collaboration with the 2010 Reykjavík Arts Festival.
